Swiss Village in Masdar mit meinen Ideen
11. August 2009Die Schweiz plant so quasi eine Kolonie in der Wüste, denn in Mascar City, der Ökostadt der Zukunft, eröffnet die Schweiz ein „Swiss Village wie unter anderem die NZZ in einem grossen Artikel „Ein Schweizer Quartier mitten in der Wüstenstadt“ berichtete:
„Mit dem «Swiss Village» soll im Zentrum von Masdar ein eigener Stadtteil für Schweizer Firmen, Institutionen und Privatpersonen entstehen. Das Schweizer Quartier soll bereits 2011 eröffnet werden. Entworfen und gebaut werden soll es von Schweizer Firmen nach dem neusten Standard der Energieeffizienz.
Angestrebt werde ein ausgewogener Nutzungsmix mit Büros, Forschungsanlagen und Produktionsstätten für Cleantechnologien, Restaurants und Shops, einer Schweizer Privatschule und Wohnungen, hiess es an der Medienorientierung. Im Zentrum soll zudem die Schweizer Botschaft von Abu Dhabi einziehen.“
Jetzt weiss ich, wieso ich an der EBS London im Fach Operations Management eine neue Stadt mit 50’000 Einwohnern planen musste. Unsere Arbeitsgruppe kann jetzt das Know-how an die Planer des Swiss Village weitergeben. Hier einige unserer Ideen für eine Ökostadt der Zukunft ohne Strassenverkehr:
Personal rapid transit (PRT)
Podcars run not on tracks, but within a grid network and are centrally controlled. They are battery powered and for that reason very eco friendly. There is space for up to four people in one Podcar and as far as boarding the destination can be chosen and no one else can enter. Up to now there is one existing system in Morgantown West Virginia and others are under construction such as London Heathrow airport and Uppsala Sweden. The main advantage of this system is that it is on demand and therefore can be used 24 hours per day. It is “more efficient than running empty buses” and there are returns in terms of personal security too (Fox, 2009). Using Podcars will reduce pollution, congestion, petroleum, accidents as well as injuries and deaths. It can start with a small network of travel points and more stations can easily be added to the system (Alter, 2008).
Water taxis
The second main transport system will be water taxis. Eco friendly water taxis, as they are planned in Dongtan, will transport people and goods within the city. The bank of the canals has to be build so that in principle everywhere people can hop on and off, but major landing stages close to important points of interests needed to be set up. To commute as pleasant as possible normal water taxis should run on a schedule and in addition small taxis should be available for ordering like a normal taxi.
Other Means of Transport
For the individual mobility, highly extended boardwalks and cycle paths through the whole city should be building to incentivise the residents. Furthermore, the local government could install renting places for bicycles and segways (a cutting-edge, two-wheeled, self-balancing and eco-friendly electric vehicle. „To move forward or backward on the segway, the rider just leans slightly forward or backward. To turn left or right, the rider simply moves the LeanSteer frame left or right“ (How the segway works, 2009)) at important points of interests.
